I do have that USE flag enabled. I think I set it in make.conf. I don't use Kmix, I just set the volumes to reasonable levels and then closed it without the option to start on login. When I first switched, it worked fine even with Firefox. This problem started a couple updates ago. The bug that was linked to is similar for sure. It is a old bug but maybe it popped up again. I figure it will be fixed again in a future update. I just pointed out the current status with my system in case the OP switched and noticed the same behavior, unwanted as it is. Dale :-) :-)
