That's why I always use my laptops with an external mouse and keyboard - well, I would do on my linux laptop if it didn't keep wiping the dongle memory.
Also on Windows at least, there's a setting that disables that awful keypad if a mouse is attached. The problem is, it only looks for a mouse dingle, so if I plug in a keyboard (and no mouse), it still disables the trackpad so you're down a mousehole ...
