As for other options, any of the ones you mentioned should serve file as a NAS. The ad#ntage of truenas is that it is built to be an appliance that you don't need to think about much once it's set up. If that's what you need, it's a good choice. If you want the option to set things up yourself and don't mind a bit more involvement, choose any distro.
