I've tried: 
fsck.vfat -v -a -w /dev/sdb1
fsck.fat 4.0 (2016-05-06)
open: No such file or directory

This doesn't work either:
fdisk /dev/sdb

Welcome to fdisk (util-linux 2.28.2).
Changes will remain in memory only, until you decide to write them.
Be careful before using the write command.
