Oops! This spelling breaks the "m" key - for some reason it doesn't work in lowercase mode. The correct comment directive is "set editing-mode vi" with a space after "set". This is also discussed on the Vim wiki: http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Use_vi_shortcuts_in_terminal Stroller.
