Indeed, there was a line in /ec/portage/package.keywords/custom, written on 2016-10-04 (git blame): =dev-db/postgresql-9.6.0 ~amd64 The installed version was still 9.6.0. In the meantime the ebuild belonging to 9.6.0 disappeared. I changed the = into a >=, then the "emerge -avuDNT @world" updated to 9.6.1 and forgot about 9.5.5. Thank you all!
