[gentoo-user] Eclass 'portability' does not exist for 'gnome-base/gconf-2.10.1-r1'

trying to upgrade the system and I'm getting this error.
Eclass 'portability' does not exist for 'gnome-base/gconf-2.10.1-r1'

suggestions for how to fix would be most welcome
