Well, this one's easy: your current matplotlib needs <dev-python/numpy-1.9.0, so upgrade matplotlib if you want the newer numpy, or leave it if you don't care. (As a side note, I remember the reason for the blocker: something in numpy's C API changed in 1.9.0, and matplotlib <1.4.0 won't compile with it.
