Hi, Has it melted yet? Keep some thermal compound at hand! Have you tried the i8kutils? emerge i8kutils Great for fan manipulation but don't tell Dell ;-) Designed for the Inspiron 8000 series but works on other models too. Works great with my Inspiron 5150 running 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 kernel. You need to compile the i8k module in the kernel: Processor Type and features>Dell laptop support.
