What about sysrescue USB stick? Just plug the scanner in and and see if
it shows up on the lsusb list? That should work even if I can't scan right?

I have a old backup computer but it is like three years out of date and
it was never set up to have a scanner attached. I'm thinking it would
be fairly useless without a serious update which would not be fun.

I have a thought. I could take it to my brothers and see if it shows up
there. He runs Kubuntu but if lsusb lists it, it is a start. Right?

Thanks.
