If only CONFIG_IKCONFIG=y is enabled, you can still use the /usr/src/linux/scripts/extract-ikconfig script to extract the config from an existing kernel image. Regardless, enabling CONFIG_IKCONFIG_PROC=y makes things so much simpler for everyone, with very little to speak against enabling it. -- eroen
