Neil, Thank you. I tried with a xubuntu 12.04 64bit live cd. There was no problem. I conclude that there is no problem with my hardware. I also conclude that there is a problem with my gentoo setup. So... Can anyone help me figure out why my Gentoo crapped up my sound ~6 months ago? Thank you, Chris
