Grasping at straws here.  What does df -h show?  You don't have to post
it.  Just see if you have space left on whatever /usr is on.  Maybe it
is full or something. 

Other than this, I'm pretty much clueless.  This is weird.  Maybe
someone else will come up with a idea.
