I removed and re-installed polkit, then followed your suggestions. My polkit only logs this (yes, I tried to log in and got rejected): # /usr/lib/polkit-1/polkitd --replace Successfully changed to user polkitd 10:58:53.739: Loading rules from directory /etc/polkit-1/rules.d 10:58:53.739: Loading rules from directory /usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d 10:58:53.739: Finished loading, compiling and executing 3 rules Entering main event loop Connected to the system bus 10:58:53.741: Acquired the name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1 on the system bus 10:59:25.755: Registered Authentication Agent for unix-session:c6 (system bus name :1.28 [gnome-shell --mode=gdm], object path /org/freedesktop/PolicyKit1/AuthenticationAgent, locale de_DE.UTF-8) Nothing more.
