I once worked for a fellow who did the math on that. He actually (no kidding) worked out the true cost of ownership of a wife over 40 years and compared it to the rental the services of a professional <nudge><nudge><wink>wink> twice a week. All corrected for expected inflation etc etc etc. He found that ownership was more expensive than ownership by a large margin - a factor of five. And he got to keep the bachelor lifestyle.
