It sounds like something you'd temporarily add to the compiler flags in make.conf. Remember to take it back out if you do it that way. Also consider making absolutely sure that you are only building xorg-x11 if you do that. There's likely a way to do it at the command line also. man emerge, etc., to figure that out I suppose.
