Not yet you don't. I'm happily running a separate /usr (LVM has nothing to do with it) without an initramfs. On my new box, I do have an initramfs, but that's because I have / on LVM, soon to be on an encrypted volume. -- Neil Bothwick Assassins do it from behind.
