If that's the cause (and I have no idea) then you should be able to complete the build this way, without starting over: #ebuild /usr/portage/app-office/openoffice/openoffice-3.2.1-r1.ebuild install That will resume the failed build where it stopped last time and, with any luck, will finish it. If the build stops again at a *different* spot, then repeat as needed. If it finally finishes without error, then there is one more step remaining: #ebuild /usr/portage/app-office/openoffice/openoffice-3.2.1-r1.ebuild qmerge > Before I start again, shall I switch to libreoffice-3.3.1 or is it not yet as > polished as OOo? My gut feeling is that libreoffice will capture the market, but I have no real evidence to offer either way.
