Check your kernel config and see if you've used vesafb-tng. Also, set the resolution for vesafb-tng the same as the resolution of your splash theme. For example, on my system, im using the 1280x1024 version of emergence (2005.0/2005.1 doesn't work for me though) with the default console resolution for vesafb-tng set also to 1280x1024.
