Yea, I'll figure it out....

I got sound working without modifying the grub.conf file. But after 
stereo sound started working, I made this modification, in preparation 
to get 5.1 sound working.

kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.11-gentoo-r11 root=/dev/hda1 snd-via82xx.dxs_support=2


Thanks for the help (Everyone).
