Hi, I do not know if this would be of any help, but my alsa dmix configuration is located in /etc/asound.conf and it is pretty similar to your .asoundrc, here it is:
pcm.!default { type plug slave.pcm "dmixer" } pcm.dmixer { type dmix ipc_key 1024 slave { pcm "hw:0,0" period_time 0 period_size 1024 buffer_size 8192 rate 44100 } bindings { 0 0 1 1 } } ctl.dmixer { type hw card 0 } Maybe you need to add the last section (ctl.demixer) ??? Cannot comment on the apps you've mentioned (alsamixer, kmix, kamix), but I use XFCE's mixer with no problem. Are those applications using the "default" plugin as output? AFAIK each app has to be configured to use the "default" output when using dmix. I know, this may not be very helpful, but I cannot think of anything else...
