Thanks. I'll try it this way; I've not had to deal with this before. Not to fear. This is not in a script, it's in the console. It's just a way to make sure I don't *forget* to do etc-update. This way, when it's all done and I finally go back to the desktop where it was happening, it's sitting there reminding me to play with my config files again.
