Thanks for the response, but none of that applies to my system, which doesn't seem to need Setserial according to its man file. More generally, isn't there a need for a listing of Gentoo updates, ie packages added/dropped & those included/removed in/from 'system' (not incl all the myriad updates of individual packages, of course) ?
