It shouldn't be a hardware issue as my machine has a Geforce 4 running the nvidia-drivers. He has a Geforce 3 running the nvidia-drivers also. I am also running the latest stable versions of everything mixed with a few unstable packages. So it shouldn't be a problem regarding me running out of date software.
