Done all that. Then updated half a dozen other keyword masked dependencies. Then accepted the updates suggested by etc-update. Then deleted /etc/apache2/conf/apache2.conf because apache2 refused to start while it still existed. Then added index.php to the DirectoryIndex directive. Then restarted apache.
