Hi,
I use KDE3.3 still, but I noticed the same situation, when I run some heavy
process, emerge for example. The screensaver has a very low (high in
measures) priority, so it would take a while to load it particularly the
OpenGL screensavers.
You can raise the priority of the screensaver, or wait while being load.
