Lucien,
Yes, this problem is solved now. There was a stale file called
/var/lib/init.d/started/mythbackend that made the system think
mythbacked was running when it wasn't. I removed that file and now the
server is running:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /TVstorage/log $ ps aux | grep myth
mark 18240 0.0 2.1 110720 10528 ? Ssl 11:01 0:00
/usr/bin/mythbackend --daemon --pidfile /TVstorage/log/mythbackend.pid
--logfile /TVstorage/log/mythbackend.log --verbose all

At this point I can do mythtv-setup as root (possibly incorrectly -
I don't know) and run mythfilldatabase. That finishes OK:

Not exactly sure what to try next so I run mythfrontend as root.
(If I run as a user right now it's acting weirder!) Is this the thing
to do? I choose Watch TV, I get a black screen for about 5 seconds and
then the frontend comes back to the menu. I exit out and I see this in
the terminal:

The program 'Global Business People' is on channel 3 right now so that
seems like a more or less correct thing for it to start with. However
it cannot find a decoder I think and therefore doesn't show me
anything.

Is that what's happening?

Where do I get decoders? Shouldn't that have been part of the install?

Cheers,
Mark
