Hmm, it just occurred to me that my assumption that Vittorio is running
devfs may be completely wrong.

Vittorio, if you *are* running udev, and the partition really does
exist, you can just:

cd /dev
/sbin/MAKEDEV hda

This should get things patched up for you.

Then you will want to do a clean shutdown and restart so that the udev
tarball gets updated with the new device nodes.
