I had problems to boot the 4.2.3-r4 kernel becuase of problems in the crypto scetion, too. At least this problem has been solved in 4.2.3-r5, but I am now suffering from bug #563804 (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=563804). So I still stick with 4.1.7-r1.
