As of last week, hardened stages for i686/amd64 have been added to the weekly autobuild process. While there were a few hiccups in the "auto" part of it last week, I believe it to be fixed (at least for i686). The amd64 build starts tonight, so we'll see if hardened stages result.

Anyway, please test out these stages and report any bugs through bugzilla. And before you ask, no, they do not have gcc-4. These stages will not have gcc-4 until there is a version that is unmasked and *stable* in the hardened profiles in the main tree. At that point, the stages will automatically have them.

You can find these stages on your favorite mirror at:

/releases/{x86,amd64}/autobuilds/${date}/hardened/

For example, the i686 hardened stages that finished building this afternoon can be found at:

http://gentoo.osuosl.org/releases/x86/autobuilds/20090520/hardened/

As of this writing, the actual stage tarball is missing, due to a flub in the autobuild config. However, I've corrected it by hand and the tarball will appear shortly. The tarball is in place in the previous week's autobuild directory.
