The --unmerge option is there to let people shoot themselves in the feet if they know what they're doing. Anybody who uses it routinely is going to get burned by it sooner or later. It simply is not intended for day-to-day-use. I'd be all for renaming it to something like --unsafe-unmerge and getting rid of the short abbreviation. --depclean is the option people should be using day-to-day. There are cases with blocks that portage doesn't handle correctly where --unmerge is sometimes the simplest way around them. Fortunate this is rare these days. -- Rich
