Just a quick reply to this side point... There's no indication in your post that you're aware that Drepper is out of the glibc picture, now. He is, and has been for... I think at least a year, now. You could of course google it if you're interested in the details, but he has definitely moved on to other things, now, and is no longer glibc "controlling god", or even, AFAIK, still involved in glibc at all.
