This is not the first time that people report that "MSN is going to shut down". So far, Skype itself is reported to use the MSN protocol internally in the latest versions. IMHO it would be better if the packages were removed because they don't work with the current versions of MSNP supported by the servers than because of a forbes article. In fact, this article says "MSN Messenger is only available in mainland China until then.". I have just connected two MSN Messenger accounts through amsn 0.98.9 on gentoo and I successfully sent messages between the accounts. amsn seems to be working outside of china.
