You are talking about net-dialup/rp-pppoe while I'm talking about
net-dialup/pppoed.

As a side note, you should try the PPP support which comes with
baselayout. It is far better than rp-pppoe crappy bash scripts. ;)
All you need is net-dialup/ppp (already installed if you have rp-pppoe)
and CONFIG_PPPOE kernel support.
