So if you code someting in java, you don't need to use Sun JDK. You need an java environment which conforms to the standard (or at least the subset you're actually using). My personal reference is kaffe. I'm now using this for years, and it works great for me. AFAIK my java code is standard conform (but rarely tested on other JREs). I won't comment anything more on the "slaveryware" issue.
