Dear Apache Incubator PMC, Hope you are doing well. We are looking for a champion to help the Texera project (https://texera.io/) enter the Apache Incubator Program. The following are details about the project.
Texera is an open-source system (https://github.com/Texera/texera) to support collaborative data science, AI, and ML using GUI-based workflows. Our vision is to develop a system to support cloud services with the following capabilities: 1. Supporting low/no-coding data science using workflows (i.e., DAGs of operators); 2. Providing a rich set of operators for AI and ML; 3. Supporting parallel data processing on computing clusters; 4. Allowing real-time collaborations of multiple users; 5. Allowing shared editing and execution, version control, and debugging; 6. Supporting languages such as Python, R, Java, and Scala; 7. Enabling access control and community-based sharing of workflows and datasets; 8. Being deployable on both on-prem and public clouds. The project started in 2016 at UC Irvine. The following are statistics after more than 8 years of development: 1. 2,146 merged pull requests; 6,569 commits; 2. 141 GitHub contributors; 3. 120+ data science projects; 4. 390+ users, 2,900+ workflows, 270K+ versions, 58K+ executions; 5. Used in 4 courses with a total of more than 150 students; 6. Multiple deployments, including the largest one on 100 nodes with 400 cores; If you are interested in championing or mentoring the project, please let me know. Thank you very much for your support. Previously I had experience of incubating the Apache AsterixDB project as a principal investigator of the project. Cheers, Prof. Chen Li Department of Computer Science UC Irvine https://chenli.ics.uci.edu/
