You have no idea how glad I am to hear that this sort of thing is happening. Having a deep technical understanding of the code base should *not* be a blocker for people to be recognized for their contributions to projects. ASF projects need help in a lot of ways besides code - glad you've found someone who is lending a hand there. (I checked out the twitter feed, they really are doing a great job.)
