The source does not build unless you have protobufs installed. Not a big deal but something you may want to add this fact to your README.md for the next subsequent release. Source builds and tests fine after protobufs is installed. mvn rat:check does not pass but they are just false positives; the PPMC vote thread seems to say that it passes.
