That sounds hard to coordinate, because all the members of the "committee" would have to subscribe to the podling dev list in order to reply on the welcome thread. Despite the best of intentions, I would anticipate diminishing participation over time. How about if either the Champion or the Mentor who handles mailing list set-up sends a cross-posted "Welcome Foo to the Incubator" message to the podling dev list and general@incubator once the dev list goes live? That would give IPMC members and other interested parties who are already subscribed to general@incubator the chance to say hello. And embedding a <mailto:dev-subscr...@foo.incubator.apache.org> link would give people an opportunity to get involved with the podling right as it revs up.
