The community does not have to have a formal rotation policy, though
it could. There's nothing wrong or unusual about simply deciding that
it's time for a change without trying to predict the future of when it
will next be time for a change.

The term 'premature' seems strange to me given that it was weeks ago
that Niclas' thread started this discussion.

It seems to me that if you think that, going forward, the community
should have a rotation policy, you should start another thread
proposing such a policy, and see what happens. Meanwhile, this thread
requests nominations. So far, I'm nonplussed to note, I'm the only
nominee. I'm going to nominate Noel, and it would be good to see some
others step forward or get pushed.

There's no policy that requires a consensus decision to open
nominations for a new chair. In fact, since the eventual decision is
the board's, the effect of a veto on a vote is an interesting
question. The board would get a report to the effect that the
community did not reach a consensus to change the chair. I wouldn't
presume to predict the board's reaction.
