Hi all,

Just a quick note to announce Thrift's official intention to join the
Apache Incubator and introduce ourselves to the Apache list. For those
not familiar with Thrift, it's a lightweight system for cross-language
programming using code-generation, RPC, and object serialization. It's
designed first and foremost to provide high performance in real-time
environments (i.e. Facebook's backend, no surprises there).

All the information, source code, and a whitepaper are available at:
http://developers.facebook.com/thrift/

We'll be working on putting together our formal proposal shortly, but
the first thing we wanted to solicit the list for was interest in being
a Champion/Mentor for the project. Paul Querna has already volunteered
to take on either role (or both), but as I understand it we're not
limited to having just one person... so please give us a shout if you'd
be interested in joining the effort in either of those roles.

I'll leave it at that for now. And of course any initial feedback is
more than welcome.

Cheers,

Mark
