I recently did this for alpha. Part of the instructions on the wiki
are outdated. I found the solution buried in other email thread
discussion, which I can't find at the moment.

Here's how to do it:

  git clone 
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git
  cd linux-stable/
 git checkout 2.6.27.y

Then you can apply the m5 patches on top of that accordingly.
