Copy the cross hair to buffer. During snap let the mouse snap to the end point of one of the lines. Convert buffer to footprint (from the buffer menu). The lines will become SMD pads. Paste the buffer back on the cross hair. Insert will snap agressively to the center of the pads. With this approach you wouldn't need a crosss hair to start with.
