It sure is a beautiful and very usable GUI.
Being such a high profile application, I'd expect the code up to standards.
A close look how they do things, may be useful. Besides, inkscape runs fine
on windows. So the notorious cross OS issues seem to be resolved.

Icon size can be configured in
file -> preferences -> interface
Only three sizes, though.
