David and Howard--that definitely helps.  If I pick the right command for
the --formats call, it shows exactly what was expected when the driver is
available. [insert facepalm]

That helps with the core issue of the required support.  I'm still open to
suggestions about having the plugins show up.  It's not central now, but I
can see that coming back around to being important some day.
