It has supported them since its early beginnings. The recent improvements were for faster loading of in-tree drivers built as plugins

I am looking for a template for a driver I am working on.
There's nothing specific for out-of-tree drivers. They are just regular drivers.
Particularly around how to update the drivers.ini. If not then I will write one.
For out-of-tree drivers you don't update drivers.ini. Out-of-tree drivers are registered before in-tree drivers
