I hope this isn't a silly question. I am running gcc 4.6.3 on Ubuntu 12. When
I compile my source code I get compiler errors in a form that I don't expect.
For example:

EVD.cpp:(.text+0x1c6e): undefined reference to `Matrix<std::complex<double>
>::Matrix()'

Why is the location of the error shown relative to .text instead of as a simple
line number?

Such questions should go to the gcc-help mailing list.

This is a linker error message. The linker can only report line numbers in some cases if there is debugging information.
