Just by the way, while it superficially sounds intuitive, I find this a slightly problematic "feature". For example when you're cross-compiling, intending to do a DESTDIR install, and what you pass as --prefix is inhabited by $build system files and libraries and so on. My two cents. Cheers, Ralf
