That's my opinion and the current state of affairs is a hindrance, so I think that -ftrapv should be reimplemented from scratch if GCC is to be serious about overflow checking. Of course we would be happy to lend a hand. :-)

Reimplementing from scratch certainly might make sense if it is a
better path. Presumably some of the library routines to be used when
there is no hardware assist could be rescued.
