I see no problems with this in C terms. I expect some code may well do things like static size_t len = __builtin_strlen ("foo"); and expect the static initializer to get folded, but that's only an issue with folding for constant arguments to pure functions - not for the functions involved here, whose whole purpose is to modify memory. -- Joseph S.
